Flappers & Fedoras

The Side Bar hosted a Speak Easy for Partying for A Purpose and the All About the Kids Organization. Savvy Dolls Phoenix and Elora donned on their fedoras and suspenders and volunteered at the roaring twenties themed casino event.

Speak Easy … because nothing is legal when the Savvy Dolls are loose on the town.

Mansions, Galas and the Savvy Dolls!

 Hi Guys and Dolls,

With the New Year, the Savvy Dolls have been evaluating and contemplating plans for the new year. Last year was an eventful and exciting year for the Savvy Dolls.

For those of you who have not been keeping up — and why haven’t you? — here’s a quick run down of the past year…

The year started with Elora and Jade — who had just joined the Savvy Dolls House — getting settled in with the Masquerade photo shoot.

Rena left the House, returning to her old life. We wish her well and sent her off with a fabulous Mother’s Day photo shoot.

We had the opportunity to be hostesses at the Play Boy Mansion for an event called “Sexy Under the Sea”. Funds from the event went to benefit the “All About the Kids” organization in San Diego. Phoenix collaborated with Victoria in the design of the “Sexy Under the Sea” outfits. The outfits were a complete success as the Savvy Dolls received compliments and attention from all. They were the pearl in the oyster. They even got the attention of Playboy Playmate, Jenny who suggested that they return to the mansion for the annual Halloween party.

sdolls2866vernetroyerwebsdolls2826wellwebFun and games over, the Dolls had to prepare for their gig at the annual La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Arts San Diego’s annual gala. The Savvy Dolls performed a unique group dance that left the audience captivated. See for yourself. Bravo Dolls!

With the passing of Michael Jackson, it was only natural that the Savvy Dolls learned the “Thriller” routine for Halloween.

The Savvy Dolls House was empty after Thanksgiving as the Dolls visited family and went on vacation. Victoria’s focus turned to planning her winter wedding with the help of Phoenix, Skye and Yves.

What’s ahead for the Savvy Dolls this year? Which Dolls will stay in the Savvy Dolls House? Which Dolls will move out and on? Who will join the Savvy Dolls House? Maybe you? Check back and find out!

29th Time the Charm!!

As we all know by know I really want to act. On the big screen, in the theatre or on a stage where ever, I love acting! I have been taking classes and picking current actors’ brains for information and to perfect this skill. I have been sending over reels and my Zed cards for a while now to the same 5 agencies in San Diego for 6 months! I send them every other week! And guess what? 29 emails later, I finally got a call back from one of the talent agents and they want me to come in for a face to face audition! Hard work and preserverance gets you to the places you want to be. Not beauty, not your body, WORK! Don’t take no for an answer, keep perfecting your skill and if at first you don’t succeed, try and try again!

Cheers!

Fit for a Queen (That’s You!)

I was thinking about something to today and I wanted to share it with all of you. We all have parts of our body that we wish we could change. Some of us want a smaller waist, smaller legs, bigger legs, toned arms, toned abs or just simply want to lose pounds. Personally, I have great genetics that keeps me looking fit even though I am not. Being fit isn’t about what you look like. It’s about how you FEEL on the inside. My mom, for instance, does not have a muscular build. She barely has time to paint her nails much less hit the gym daily! But you know what? She keeps to a healthy diet which helps her body stay happy and fit, so even though she doesn’t look like the next fitness model, she is still happy with herself because she feeds her body happy nutrients.

Greasy foods and caffeine are known to make the body feel bloated, full or even fatigued. Your body has to work super hard to break these items down so it can either store or get rid of the waste (90% of the time it stores it!). If you change your meals from greasy to low fat and high nutrient, you will definitely be able to feel the difference in your body.  Your body will be happier because it does not have to deal with these “bad” nutrients. Instead you are giving it items it can use freely and burn off. This in turn helps you to store less of the fat your body can’t burn off and reduces the bloating.

One of the biggest “bloating” nutrients is lactose. Although, I recommend everyone should eat at least one small container of yogurt a day to help your digestive track, I do not recommend eating a ton of dairy products. Lactose is found in most dairy products. While I am not saying cut out your dairy products, I am saying pay attention to products that are made of mostly lactose. Items such as whole milk, cheddar cheese, Ice Cream and milk-shakes are really hard for your body to break down. Until your body can break these items down for use or storage, you will feel bloated and full. You can instead choose items that are made for those who are lactose intolerant. You can buy Soy Milk (which alone taste horrible!) that is vitamin fortified, so you don’t miss out on your much needed calcium and vitamin D. If you mix a small amount of vanilla flavoring to soy milk the taste is more like a vanilla milk shake.

It’s not being “thin” that makes us happy, it’s feeling “thin” that makes us happy. Beauty really does start on the inside just try these simply diet changes and you are guaranteed to feel more energized and healthier within a week.

The one thing to remember when dieting is this: your body is a surviving machine. If you feed it regularly with the nutrients it NEEDS to run it is less likely to try to store excess nutrients. If you are not eating often enough or you are eating foods that doesn’t contain any of your bodily needs, then instead of burning it, your body will store everything. Your body stores it because it doesn’t know when it’s next feeding will be and it doesn’t want to run low on its nutrients. Your body wants to survive and rather you like it or not, it will store what it feels it needs to in order to survive to the next feeding. Feed your body what it needs to survive and the only thing it will want to do is give you more energy to go out and get its next meal.

Exfoliation Nation

I was lying out on the beach yesterday watching the surfers either make it or crash. I forgot my mat so I laid on the sand. I know it sounds very uncomfortably but after laying in it for a while and it’s all over I didn’t seem to notice it anymore. I didn’t want to use my towel because it was the only thing to dry off with. I laid there in the sand watching the surfers for about an hour and a half. I took a dip every now and then to get a nice cool down from the hot sun.

Once I got home to shower I noticed something about my skin: it was renewed like I had just exfoliated! Then it hit me. Lying in the sand and then rinsing off in the ocean was exfoliating my skin. I never really thought about going to the beach to get a good exfoliation, but now I don’t know why. The sand scrubs against your skins freeing the dead skin cells and then the ocean washes them away. If you are on a budget, like me, but don’t want to sacrifice your beauty health, I recommend hitting up your local beach and grab some sand! You can bottle some up and take it home (since rolling around on the beach probably looks a little silly!).

If you choose to take it home, clean the sand by mixing with clean water and a easy rinse antibacterial until it is free from most of the excess dirt. Once clean put it in a travel jar you can buy from Wal-Mart for $.50 and use it 2x a week to help keep your skin renewed and refresh. Don’t forget to rub your roughest places: elbows, knees, and the bottom of the feet! Remember to not rub the sand in your face because it is NOT eye friendly! Use your normal daily face wash/exfoliate on your face. The sand actually has reduced the callus that can build up and I don’t have to exfoliate as often because it is not diluted with the perfumes which are alcohol based (which dries out your skin MORE leaving the skin to dry out more often… which means you exfoliate more and end up having to continue to buy the exfoliate more often.

If you do not live near a beach you can use granulated sugar which is tons cheaper than buying the small cans of pre-made exfoliates. You don’t have to clean the sugar either! Keep in mind sugar melts in water so don’t pre-mix this solution with water. Just fill the container of your choice (make sure it seals tight!) with the sugar and use it mid-shower for refreshed and glowing skin! Ah, don’t you just love all natural exfoliates? =)

Cheers!
